Frequently Asked Questions

One of our passions is to ensure every client feels fully informed and able to make an educated decision in working with us that they can feel confident about!
We advise anyone pursuing one or our procedures to familiarize themselves with these questions and answers.

Why Permanent Cosmetics?

Permanent makeup is a safe cosmetic application where high grade pigment is implanted into the skin. The reasons for permanent makeup are abundant, therefore the interest in the procedure has been steadily increasing for both women and men.

The fact is simple: It is not about changing your look, but rather, enhancing your natural features and reducing the need to use regular makeup/cosmetics on a daily basis. It can permanently enhance your symmetry and balance in your face and most of all, save time to make your life easier! Wake up every morning ready to go for a swim, to the gym, have a run, play tennis, golf, shower or perspire, your makeup won’t smudge or run off.

Permanent Makeup is incredibly beneficial for Alopecia sufferers and those with medical conditions that cause their hands to shake, creating the illusion of hair replacement or areola repigmentation after breast reconstruction/cancer, vision problems or those that have allergic reactions to over the counter makeup products…but mostly for convenience!

How do I book an appointment? Is a Consultation Required?

For the majority of our services, a consultation is required. We understand that you may already know what you want and are eager to proceed, and we share your excitement! However, one aspect that sets us apart from many studios in the area is our commitment to a higher technical standard with the understanding that the low-regulation landscape of this field does not protect you as a  consumer, so we will.

To prevent botched work and ensure results we can be proud of, we need to thoroughly understand your skin type, medical history, and desired outcome.

This ensures that if we proceed with your service, we can confidently stand by the results, protect your skin and your investment, and ensure you feel informed and confident about the procedure. It’s a permanent change to your face, and you deserve the best!

I have a previous Permanent Cosmetics work/ microblading; Can you tattoo over them/ fix them? Will it be considered a Touch Up?

It is advised to book a consultation either in person or to provide clear pictures for approval so that we can help fully inform you about the state of your current work in your skin or lip tissue, and cover all your options in efforts to create the beautiful work you desire.

While color corrections are possible, for great results, typically the tattoo must be VERY faded in order to work over or corrected.

Please keep in mind that  working over other artists’ work is often more challenging than working on a blank canvas. Measurement corrections are needed, extra steps of care to not overwork already impacted skin or lip tissue, additional steps to revitalize color, etc.

For that reason we DO NOT consider previous work, not done by us, as a Touch Up or Maintenance.

We are willing to consider this on a case by case basis given that some previous permanent cosmetics are well placed, well faded, and well cared for; therefore simple to work over. But as a base line, again, we do not consider previous work a touch up or Maintenance.

**An extra fee will apply if color correction is needed.

I am worried the work will come out too dark or too vibrant- How do you choose color?

Color Theory is an art all on its own. This is such a vital aspect of this technical work.

We never simply select a pigment to match the hair color or makeup you’re used to using alone. Color theory takes into consideration both your over-tone (How light or dark you get in the sun) and your undertone, which is the reds, greens, yellows, etc that create the type of warmth or coolness of your skin and the pigment we need to select.

We then pair it considering the starting point of any hair you have, or any naturally existing color in your lip tissue. Finally your preference is considered as we swatch the color on your skin.

Here at For the Beauty, we stand by a conservative approach to color choice. We know that we can always add more darkness or vibrancy in your touch up, but once its too dark you can’t take it away. By easing into the color range for your skin and hair, we find happier and more comfortable clients in the long run!

What is the recovery- healing time? Do I need time off work?

Healing time varies from person to person. With proper topical anesthetics & numbing, swelling will be very minimal and typically there is no bleeding involved with our procedures.

We provide each client with an aftercare package and written instructions. Visible skin surface healing is complete typically within 10 days on average. The treated area will begin to form light scabs, darken, then peel, and soften/lighten up within a span of approx 4 weeks. It is recommended to have your touch-up appointment any time 4-12 weeks following your original procedure, depending on the service type.

There is usually no need to take time away from daily activities such as work, but keep in mind submerging your fresh work in water such as a pool or ocean will be harmful to your results. You are also advised to reduce sweating to prevent infection and promote good retention.

If I’ve had lip filler am I able to also have lip blush?

Yes, the two treatments work really well together. Often with lip filler we lose the crisp border to our lips as well as our natural lip color can begin to appear faded and spotty in response to the filler. Lip Blush can take your luscious lips and ensure that your border appears crisp with a youthful and even toned blush from the inside out.

You just need to plan your appointments carefully so that the lips have enough time to heal in between treatments. We recommend waiting at least 6-8 weeks between treatments

How do I know the shape of the brows will be right for me? What about the lip shape?

Whether we are measuring you for browns, lips, hair line- we adhere to a very strategic and mathematical approach of anatomical facial measurements combined with artistry to create both symmetry and balance.

For brows, there is a 21 point structural measurement process considering the brow bone, the other facial features you have, and your current brow growth pattern. Once the shape is laid, we make minor adjustments to articulate the arch, perhaps elongate the tail; whatever preferences you may have that compliment your natural measurements.

We never free hand and we never use stencils.

For Lips it is VITAL that we do not surpass the vermillion border of the lips. Any artist willing to do so will create a botch job and the pigment settles into the lip and non lip tissue very differently- leading a healed results to look like a chapped ring around your lips. There are very few circumstances where we tattoo on skin tissue outside the Vermillion Border around the lips and it must be done in a very specific way for the results to look appropriate.

Will you tattoo my brows exactly as I draw them?

If you arrive with perfect eyebrows then of course we will be happy to follow your own shape, but the likelihood of this happening is slim.

We will measure and design your brows carefully to suit your face as explained in the question above.

You have chosen to come to a professional who is very experienced in their field, so please be amenable to consulting about the mapping created and consider our advise; yet we will always work together to create something you are most comfortable with!

How Long Does Each Procedure Take?

Each procedure type takes a varied amount of time. For Brows and Lips the initial procedure will generally take approximately 2 to 3 hours, sometimes up to 4 if you have any complications we need to prepare for such as difficulty numbing or abnormal slight increase in bleeding. There is paperwork/ records to establish, photographs to take, desired design and color to discuss, the procedure to perform and the aftercare requirements to discuss.

Follow up or color refresher procedures usually do not require the same amount of time, often 2 hours or less, and as short as 1 hour. Scalp treatments or Paramedical treatments may take longer periods of time depending on the size of area being treated.

Does it hurt?

A topical anesthesia is used as needed to help numb the areas to be treated. This helps to alleviate any minor discomfort you may experience during the procedure. Everyone has their own unique level of pain tolerance.

Some people feel that certain areas of the face are more sensitive than others, so special emphasis is put on making the client as comfortable as possible. A variety of topical anesthetics are on hand to ensure that your procedure is as pain-free as possible.

How often will I need to Maintain the work I received/ touch ups?

First, we consider any work done on the area after 8 or 12 weeks depending on the service, a Maintenance and no longer a “Touch Up”.

We default to an average of 18 months for brows, 2 years for lips, 3+ years for Scalp Micropigmentation, and 3+ years for scar/ stretch mark repair.

However, please keep in mind that skin is an ever changing canvas with countless elements affecting outside of both the artist’s control, and sometimes outside of your control as well.

Lifestyle factors such as sun exposure, sweating, skin care and other products, medications, etc. can all cause the work you received to fade faster or color shift slightly overtime.

Skin conditions like rosacea, psoriasis, eczema, and acne may result in needing maintenance done more frequently.

How much is the deposit?

Outside of unique marketing campaign structures, deposits are always 50% of the service. We do this so that we can avoid keeping anyone’s card on file to be charged for charging fees related to cancellations, late rescheduling, and no-shows. By securing a deposit, we can allocate resources to you and prioritize your service, manage our schedule, allocate staff, and accommodate other clients effectively.

*** Exceptions are made for any financed service. If you wish to use AfterPay or VegaroPay, or any other of our Financing Options, please call the center to book your appointment through our reception desk.

*** Deposits are considered non-refundable unless they qualify for an exception within our cancellation policy, as outlined in section 1.b.

What is the difference between Nano And Microblading?

Nano Brows is a more advanced approach in comparison to microblading. The technique of Nano Brows uses a tattoo machine to inject the pigment into the skin. This allows for a more hyper-realistic result because the Nano technique allows for more advances feathering heair patterns since it does not cut incisions into the skin which cannot be crossed as natural hairs do. It is less invasive and is a less traumatic technique for the skin in comparison to the microblading technique. The healing is typically faster and smoother.

It also is suited for oily or challenging skin types where microblading may not be an option.

For more information please refer to this blog post ‘Nano Brow vs Microblading’

Does the pigment type matter? Why?

There is nothing we hate more than seeing a client come in wanting revision or touch up on an old permanent cosmetics brow that was done with a fully organic pigment or worse, traditional tattoo ink.

Fully Organic pigments are heavily concentrated with a dark carbon element that takes years if ever to fully fade from the skin. This makes it very difficult to create natural and vibrant coloring over time as you are maintaining your permanent cosmetics work.

Artists and Practitioners MUST be trained to understand pigment formulation and how it interacts with various skin types to ensure your results can stand the test of time and fade properly for future maintenance to not only look natural but not damage and oversaturate the skin.

If this happens, removal is your only option as corrections cannot overpower skin that has been oversaturated.

Which is better, Saline Removal or Laser Removal, and which one is for me?

We advise you to review the video in this blog post to review a video example of “What happens when you remove organic pigment by Laser removal”

It isn’t always possible to know exactly what pigment was used previously in the skin- however there are some tell-tale signs that your provider can look for to help you decide which removal or lightening method is right for you. This is important because when Organic pigments are lifted from the skin by laser, a vibrant orange residue is left behind. This is due to the phenomenon of Oxidation. Saline removal and Laser are comparable in the amount of sessions needed typically and also are comparable in price.
